First, and I know this is going to come off as cold and callous, but it has been bugging me for days. I am not heartless, and my heart goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones just as the holidays are upon us. But let's be realistic. The recent search for the three missing (now two missing) mountain climbers on Mt. Hood really disturbed me. I was amazed by the effort put into finding these three thrill seekers. I mean, really. Blackhawk and Chinook helicopters, a C-130 Hercules airplane, heat seeking drones, the 10th Mountain Division, hundreds of people working non-stop for over a week to find them. Look, I am not a mean person, but how much effort and taxpayer dollars should be expended to rescue three thrill seekers who decided to climb Mt. Hood using the most difficult ascent at the most perilous
time of year, as winter is? They assumed the climb would take a quick two
days instead of thoughtfully planning for a more realistic three or
more and did not pack accordingly AND then declined to rent on the way up, for
just dollars a day, personal locator devices. All of this for thrill seekers who voluntarily decided to do something very risky. Yet for days, people sat on the roofs of their flooded homes in New Orleans, surrounded by polluted water waiting to be rescued from a huricane. Where were the helicopters, planes and Army for those people? I am sorry the climbers died, but I do not feel like taxpayers should have to be put on the hook to pay for the type of rescue efforts that were required to find them.
Next, Virginia Rep. Virgil Goode (R - of course) disgusts me. His insensitive, offensive, inflammatory and highly inaccurate comments regarding Rep.-elect Keith Ellison's (D-MN) decision to use a Quran for his non-official swearing-in smack of racism and bigotry, pure and simple. People need to realize that this is the Republican modus operandi in its ugliest and most transparent form. They are hate mongers who use disinformation to create divisions among people. Plus, Goode is just an ignorant idiot. He said "The Muslim representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of
that district and if American citizens don't wake up and adopt the
Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more
Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Quran." The "Virgil Goode position" that he espouses wants to do away with "diversity visas," which he said
allowed people into America "not from European countries" and "some
terrorist states." Very simply put he discrimates against non-whites and non-Europeans. This man should be driven from office. Aside from the racism, Goode is just a moron. First, Keith Ellison is not an immigrant. He was born in Detroit and converted to Islam in college. (These Virginia Republicans are amazingly stupid when it comes to this subject -- see Senator Allen's Macaca slur and his "welcoming" of the native born Virginian to "America and the real world of Virginia" -- I am beginning to think the real world of Virginia is a very scary place). Second, no Congressman actually swears-in to their office using any religious text. They are sworn in en masse. However, they have the option of having a ceremonial swearing-in as a photo op and can use a religious text of their choice for the photo op.
Lastly, the Rosie vs. The Donald fiasco was humorous yet disturbing at the same time. You can love or hate either Rosie or The Donald or both of them... whatever. You can think Rosie was wrong for attacking The Donald on The View, although their is some validity to her rant (just my opinion) even if the forum was questionable. She is a lightening rod on the show, isn't she?
I give her credit for having the balls to speak her mind. Although sometimes you wonder if she should sometimes not express herself on everything. What offends me however, and should offend a lot of people is the fact that The Donald found every possible way to call Rosie a fat slob and question her worth as a person because of her weight and physical appearance. He also demonstrated homophobia in some of his comments. As someone who is fat and gay, I resent that. This is also not the first time he has made sexist, homophobic or disparaging remarks about someone's appearance. Come on now. It's not like The Donald is anything to look at or are his fucking butt-ugly kids. Get a fucking haircut for Christ's sake. You can dress up a pig in a $10,000 suit, but he is still a pig. I find him to be a vain, greedy, disgusting, self important jackass. I als suspect he is compensating for a small penis with his need to have his name on everything, everywhere.
In the summer of 2005 Lamont joined Northampton Saints from Glasgow.
Recently scored two memorable tries for Scotland against the hopeful
Grand Slam winners (France) in Scotland's six nation stunning 20-16
victory on the 5th February 2006 , one of which he joined a ruck and
used his strength and power to bundle over the line and take the Scots
to victory. Then, 13 days later added to his growing reputation by
scoring 4 tries against Saracens.
He is the first Saints player to achieve this since another Scot, Craig
Moir, in 1996. On 26th February 2006, he played a major part in the
Scotland squad's victory over ENGLAND to win the Calcutta Cup by 18
points to 12.
His younger brother Rory Lamont plays on the wing for Sean's former club Glasgow.
Sean recenlty expanded his world wide appeal by appearing in the Dieux du Stade
pin-up calendar for 2007 and accompanying "making of" DVD. His well
endowed full frontal nudity has brought Sean tens of thousands of new
admirers from all corners of the globe, mostly gay men. Sean's the new
gay icon, a "Sporn" star (Sporn: the combination of Sports and Porn,
where straight male athletes strike gay porn poses for various
advertisements and endorsements.)
That is where this blog entry comes in. Most of you probably already know about the Dieux du Stade calendars put out annually. It seems that some still pictures from the "making of the calendar" DVD have leaked out and they are now on the net. OK, I know my blog has gotten a little risque and overtly sexual lately. I am not sure why exactly, but please accept my apologies. However, you will want to check this out. And after you do, I am sure you will forgive me. This time I am only going to provide the link to the on-line rugby debauchery, rather than post the pictures here. I might as well give the credit and the hits to the guy who actually posted the pics in the first place. In any event, I stumbled upon these beauties this morning and had to share them with you. WOW! Enough said. All of a sudden I am hungry for some thick pieces of sausage!
This is Rodrigo Sanchez of Rodrigo y Gabriela. He is adorable! They were just on Letterman and my heart went pitter patter. While originally from Mexico, they now reside in Ireland. How come I did not know that BEFORE I went to Ireland?
It never fails to amaze me the latitude that CNN gives Lou Dobbs in his incessant opining on illegal immigration. I am not sure, given all the things that could be reported on why CNN allows him to dedicate as much time and energy to this one subject. Perhaps this is their way of luring some viewers over from Fox News. But Lou... we get it. You oppose illegal immigration. Do you really need to bang that drum every single day? I am to the point now that I switch from CNN to MSNBC when Lou is on.
What really irks me about the way Lou addresses the subject (since I cannot call what he does reporting) are two different things. First, all the anti-immigrant fervor that is being drummed up by Lou's xenophobic rants runs the risk of creating a great deal of anti-Mexican (since the only border Lou actually talks about is the Mexican border) sentiment directed at Mexican Americans (yes, American citizens of Mexican descent) and other Mexicans who are in the country legally. In many parts of the country that are not entirely enlightened, some people may jump to conclusions thinking that because you look Mexican you must be an illegal immigrant. Think not? Well think again. I come from one of those less enlightened areas of the country. It doesn't take much for violence to result once the seeds of hate are spread.
Second, Lou is against providing those immigrants who are already here with a pathway towards legalization (which he inaccurately calls "amnesty"). But you never hear any actual suggestions from Lou about how to round up the nearly 12 million illegal immigrants and deport them. Nor do you ever hear him talk about what the economic impact to the country would be if those workers were deported. As NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg noted in a WSJ editorial:
Although they broke the law by illegally crossing our borders or overstaying their visas, our economy would be a shell of itself had they not, and it would collapse if they were deported. The same holds true for the nation.
But Lou doesn't want to talk about that. How does he suggest the middle class, who he says there is a war being waged against, absorb the economic impact of his immigration stance. For one, the cost of feeding your family will go up as meat-packers and fruit and vegetable pickers will be deported and replaced with significantly higher paid workers. Where do you think that cost difference is going to be made up? It will be burdened by consumers. The cost of hotel stays will increase as hotels are forced to higher hotel maids at higher salaries. New houses and apartments will cost more as construction hands are deported. Illegal immigrants are a major part of the fabric of this country. We have all benefited from their contributions. Now we need a reasonable solution to the immigration problem, but one that is fair, workable and enforceable.
